Natural Treatment For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

There was an episode of the "Golden Girls" where Dorothy wasn't quite feeling right. She didn't know what it was, but she knew something was wrong. She was tired, couldn't concentrate, and basically was out of sorts. She went to doctors to see if they could find anything wrong with her. All the tests came back normal. They told her that there was nothing wrong with her and suggested that she seek psychiatric help. Finally, Dorothy went to a doctor who diagnosed her as having chronic fatigue syndrome. He pointed out to her that many doctors do not even acknowledge that this disease exists, but it does. He made some suggestions to her as to how to treat it, as there was no cure and nobody really understood what causes it.

That was my first experience with something that I eventually ended up having myself. I recognized it right away when it came on and immediately sought natural methods to battle it, as I knew the doctors weren't going to be much help, though at least today it is more widely acknowledged and for the most part, the causes generally known.

It has been determined that fatigue, especially chronic fatigue is caused by a high-fat and refined carbohydrate diet. Emotional stress also adds to the problem. And those who smoke, drink, take drugs and eat poorly are also at risk. In other words, it is because of the way we live that we come down with chronic fatigue syndrome. The question is, if medical science doesn't know how to treat it other than to give us dangerous drugs to pump us up, what can we do about it?

Fortunately, I have discovered, through my own relentless search for natural cures for a number of problems that I had, that chronic fatigue syndrome can easily be treated by making a few lifestyle changes. The majority of these changes involve diet, though there are other things you should do as well.

For starters, and this is very important, get plenty of rest. Studies show that you will actually live longer if you don't sleep eight hours a night. This is true. Six hours of sleep a night is more than enough to wake up refreshed and ready to face the day.

Another thing that is very important is to get plenty of exercise. While you might be tempted to think that exercise will tire you out even more, it won't. Exercise, in moderation, will help circulate the blood better and actually end up giving you more energy.

Most people who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome are deficient in many vitamins, including B complex, C, D and iron. It is important to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables regularly. Stay away from junk food, fried food and sweats.

There are also several herbs such as American ginseng, lavender, rosemary, sweet flag, and pasque flower that are excellent for treating this disease.

By simply eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of rest and exercise, you will find that your chronic fatigue syndrome will be a thing of the past.
